Ken Phelps

Ken Phelps was drafted by the Royals in the 15th round of the 1976 Draft and played for Kansas City from 1980-1981. A power hitting left handed 1B/DH, Phelps then played for the Expos, Mariners, Yankees, Athletics and Indians, combining to hit 123 MLB HR’s and slashing .374/.480/.854. To this day, “Digger” is the fastest AL player to ever reach 100 home runs (1322 at-bats). He recently joined Dave O to talk about being drafted and coming up with the Royals, Bill James recognizing him as EXTREMELY underrated and undervalued, what it was like being mentioned on an episode of Seinfeld and lots more! Billy Brewer

Billy Brewer pitched for the Royals from 1993-1995, appearing in 144 games out of the KC bullpen. Left handed and 6-1, Brewer came to Kansas City as a Rule 5 selection from the Expos organization and would later be traded to the Dodgers for Jose Offerman. All in all, Billy spent parts of seven years at the Big League level for the Yankees, Athletics and Phillies. He recently joined Dave O to talk about how homesickness almost made him quit baseball during his first professional spring training, his shock in being taken by the Royals in the Rule 5 draft, how much he absolutely LOVED KC and lots more! Rance Mulliniks

Rance Mulliniks played for the Royals from 1980-1981 after coming over to KC from the Angels in the trade that also landed Willie Aikens (for Al Cowens, Todd Cruz and Craig Eaton). While with Kansas City, Mulliniks appeared in 60 games as a utility infielder before finishing his career with 11 seasons in Toronto, including a 1992 World Championship and combined numbers of .280/68/389. Noted as one of the Top 50 Blue Jays of all-time, Mulliniks recently joined Dave O to talk about coming over to KC after his Angels days, the influential role Hal McRae played in his career, facing the Royals in the ’85 ALCS, eleven years in Toronto and lots more! Pat Sheridan

Pat Sheridan was selected by the Royals in the 3rd round of the 1979 draft and played in Kansas City during 1981 and again from 1983-1985. A left handed hitting outfielder, Sheridan cranked two key home runs for the Royals during the 1985 ALCS against Toronto and overall, played in 15 KC post season games. Following his times with the Royals, Sheridan would appear in two more World Series, both with the Tigers (1987) and Giants (1989). He recently joined Dave O to talk about his early days with the Royals, including the ’84 and ’85 post seasons, playing with the Giants during the Earthquake delay of the ’89 World Series and multitudes more! Jeff Fulchino

Jeff Fulchino pitched for Kansas City during the 2008 season and appeared in 12 games out of the Royals bullpen. A 6-4, 270 pound right hander, Fulchino also spent time at the Big League level with the Marlins, Astros and Padres, performing in a combined 163 games over five seasons. His best year came in 2009, when he pitched in 61 games for the Astros with a 3.40 ERA. Tom Burgmeier

Tom Burgmeier pitched for the Royals from 1969-1973, appearing in 196 games with a 3.20 ERA and 28 saves. A 5-11 southpaw, “Burgy” spent parts of 17 seasons in the Big Leagues and was an All-Star with Boston in 1980. Overall, Burgmeier appeared in 745 games with the Angels, Royals, Twins, Red Sox and Athletics. After his career, Tom spent seventeen seasons in the Royals organization as a coach (for 22 total years as a Royal). He recently joined Dave O to talk at length about his times in KC, both as a player and a coach, as well as coming up with the Angels, being an All-Star with Boston and lots more! Ryan Shealy

Ryan Shealy played for the Royals from 2006-2008 and amassed KC totals of .740/17/77 in 123 games. A 6-5 right handed first baseman, Shealy came over to KC from Colorado at the trade deadline in 2006 (with Scott Dohmann for Jeremy Affeldt and Denny Bautista). Overall, Ryan played in 169 MLB games with the Rockies, Royals and Red Sox. He recently joined Dave O to talk about being drafted by the Rockies twice, playing at the University of Florida, coming up through the Rockies minor league system, being traded to the Royals, loving Kansas City and lots more! Allen McDill

Allen McDill pitched for the Royals from 1997-1998 and appeared in 10 games out of the KC bullpen. A 6-0 lefty, McDill was originally drafted by the Mets in 1992 and finished his MLB career with 38 games pitched over four seasons with the Royals, Tigers and Red Sox. A product of Arkansas Tech, Allen recently joined Dave O to talk about his four seasons in the Royals organization, including Wichita, Omaha, KC and a LEGENDARY George Brett story, as well as all the other stops, too! Jimmy Campanis

Jimmy Campanis was an original Royal and played in KC from 1969-1970. The son of the late Dodgers GM Al Campanis, “Campy” caught 61 games while in a Royals uniform after being traded by his Dad from LA to KC! He would later be dealt by the Royals to the Pirates as part of the deal that landed KC Freddie Patek and all in all, spent parts of six seasons at the Big League level. He recently joined Dave O to talk lots about his father Al, including some amazing Jackie Robinson stories, his thoughts on coming over to KC, how “truly first class” the Royals organization was, memories of many deceased teammates and lots more! Shane Costa

Shane Costa played for the Royals from 2005-2007 and overall, spent parts of eight seasons with the Kansas City organization (2003-2010). Originally drafted by the Royals in the 2nd round of the 2003 draft out of Cal State Fullerton, Kansas City was the only organization that the left handed hitting outfielder ever played for, as Costa logged 154 games and 421 AB’s while in a KC uniform. He recently joined Dave O to talk about his entire baseball journey, from playing in the College World Series twice to “really growing up” at Wilmington, from his times in the Big Leagues to his current day role of working for Scott Boras, and lots more!
