Rusty Meacham

Rusty Meacham pitched out of the Royals bullpen from 1992-1995, appearing in 164 KC games with a 3.79 ERA. Claimed by Kansas City off of waivers from Detroit, the 6-3 righty saw his best campaign come in 1992, when he went 10-4 with a 2.74 ERA. Following his times with the Royals, Meacham went on to pitch with the Mariners, Astros and Rays as part of eight seasons at the MLB level. He recently joined Dave O to discuss coming up with the Tigers, the lucky break he got in coming to KC, spraying the fans in RF GA with the firehose, his overall favorite memories of the Royals and lots more!   1. My all time favorite Royals pitcher! Such a great guy. Threw me a ball when I was a fan the season before I was the Omaha bat boy. I was there when he got traded to Seattle. He called the clubhouse to get some things sent to him and I answered the phone and told him I had saved his pants and jacket. Told me to keep them. Still have them today! In the minors it’s and to find cloths that would fit because you get a pile of pants and jerseys to pick from and his pants ended up fitting me pretty good so I just kept them for the rest of my bat boy career lol! He told me his favorite trading card was one of him signing an autograph. He was very great to the fans!

  2. He was nicknamed “El Caballo Loco” as a member of the Indios de Mayaguez in the Puerto Rico Winter Baseball League.
